Police have arrested the prime suspect-identified as “Short Boss”- in the shooting death of 21-year-old Ronsley Clarke on August 2 2018 at “C” Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
This is according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Jairam Ramlakhan on Friday, who explained that the arrest, which was intelligence-based, occurred on Thursday.
The suspect was allegedly found on the West Coast of Demerara.
He has since been handed over to investigators in the Police “C” Division as investigations continue.
iNews had reported that Clarke, a mason, of Timehri, EBD was shot in front of his girlfriend at around 19:30h on the day in question.
Based on information received, the victim and the suspect are known to each other and reportedly had a disagreement about a month ago while at a party.
However, on the evening in question, Clarke was in the company of his girlfriend Alesha Thomas at Sophia “C” Field main access road when the suspect was reportedly seen drawing a small silver pistol from his jacket.
An alarm was raised, but before anything could be done, he reportedly discharged three rounds in Clarke’s direction, two of which struck him, one to his right side rib and one to his right side upper back.
The gunman then quickly made good his escape in an unknown direction.
The Police were called to the scene and Clarke was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Two .32 spent shells were recovered from the scene of the shooting. (Ramona Luthi)
