Arson is suspected to be the reason behind the fire which destroyed a part of the former popular “Sheriff Nightclub” on Wednesday, last, as the relevant authorities have concluded that the blaze did not start as a result of an electrical problem.
As such investigations are presently on-going into the matter to determine what transpired on the night in question that led to the fire being started.
According to sources, the building did not have access to electricity when the fire took place as the power supply had been disconnected a while back.
Meanwhile, the owner of the property, Deolall Pooran, explained that he was unaware as to what could have caused the fire to have taken place and strongly believes that it had been deliberately set.
However, at this point in time, he is unable to say who might have wanted the property to be destroyed or burnt down since he only purchased the building about two years ago.
INews understands that plans had been put in place to have the vacant building rented to someone shortly before the devastating fire occurred.
Pooran noted that the insurance on the building cannot facilitate the expenses incurred as a result of the fire since the insurance is ‘minimal’.
It is hoped that security footage from nearby surveillance cameras will be able to assist investigators as well as the owner in determining if there was anything out of the ordinary on the day the fire took place, or if anyone was around acting in a “suspicious” manner lurking by the building.
