The newest Member of Parliament (MP) on the Opposition side of the House was sworn in during yesterday afternoon’s sitting in the National Assembly.
Sheila Veerasammy is the official replacement for former People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) MP, Dr Clive Jagan, who had recently resigned from his post as an MP due to health issues.
Prior to Veerasammy becoming the Opposition Party’s newest MP, she served as General Secretary of the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO), a position which she still holds.
Veerasammy’s name had been extracted from the Party’s list at the General Elections held last May.
INews was told that she had joined the PPP’s youth arm in 1979 after which she commenced studies in the field of political science in Russia on a scholarship.
