[www.inewsguyana.com] – Government plans to build close to 300 low-income houses in Region Three, between now and 2020. The construction of these homes is part of the new administration’s vision of providing opportunities for all to improve their quality of life by owning a home.
According to Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Keith Scott, the communities of Stewartville, Edinburg, Anna Catherina and Cornelia Ida will be targeted for the construction of these houses. He explained that the Ministry is proposing that 50 of the houses each be built in Stewartville, Edinburg, and Cornelia Ida and 100 in Anna Catherina.
According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), Minister Scott also disclosed as part of the ministry’s focus in Region Three, there will be an aggressive drive towards addressing the issue of occupancy of the housing areas for which lots were allocated under the previous administration.
It was noted that while there has been 100% distribution of lots in housing areas such as Belle West and Parfaite Harmonie in Region 3, just about 60 to 65 percent of the persons allocated lots would have constructed on them.
“We are trying now to encourage those other persons who have not taken up their lots in those areas to now begin to build,” Minister Scott said.
As the administration moves to facilitate housing in a more cohesive and sustainable manner, as part of its vision 2020, it had promised to ensure that all Guyanese have access to serviced lots and housing and to pursue a number of financing options to realise this objective.
