[www.inewsguyana.com] – Seven persons, including a female, were on Friday, September 20 remanded to prison for the murder of 27 – year – old Zulficar Namdar, who was gunned down at his Meten – Meer – Zorg, West Coast Demerara home on September 10.
Four of the accused were also charged with robbery underarms, while two of them were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony. They were not required to plead to the indictable offence. The seven persons include{
1. 38 – year – old Alan Dorsette of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo
2. 32 – year – old Delwin Croft of Tushen Housing Scheme,
3. 30 – year – Essan Laurence of Vreed – En – Hoop,
4. 36 – year – old Jermaine Williams of Anna Catherina,
5. 34 – year – old Andrew Calandar of West Meten – Meer – Zorg,
6. 38 – year – old Samuel Bacchus of East Ruimveldt Georgetown and
7. 36 – year – old Kassandra Singh of Parika.
After committing the murder, they were also accused of stealing several articles totaling $320,000 and $1M cash property of Fazila Namdar – the mother of the victim.
According to Police prosecutor Bharrat Mangru, on the day of the incident at about 20:48 hours Zulfikar Namdar was attacked and robbed by a group of armed men and the woman.
The prosecutor said as a result, Namdar who is the owner of the shop was shot and killed in the process. Attorney – at – law Melville Duke represented Jermaine Williams and told the court that his client was severely beaten and tortured by the police and forced to give a statement.
Meanwhile, on September 07 at Wakenaam Island Essequibo; three of the murder accused; Allan Dorsette, Essan Williams and Jermaine Williams attacked and robbed Rohan Dhankeshore of $3.5 million dollars in jewelry and $2.2 million dollars in cash.
Additionally, as it relates to the shoot – out in Meten – Meer Zorg recently, Samuel Bacchus who is the brother of the late Kirk Bacchus was charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit robbery underarms.
The court heard that on September 16, acting on information that gunmen planned to rob Meten – Meer – Zorg businessman Sheriff Amad; the police confronted two men; the late Kirk Bacchus who was shot and killed by Police and Keifa Small.
Further investigations were conducted and both men who were in control of two motor cars were arrested after which they admitted to transporting the gunmen in the area.
After hearing the case, the Chief Magistrate remanded all seven accused to prison until October 28 since investigations are not yet completed. [Royan Abrams]
