[www.inewsguyana.com] – World number six Camille Serme of France has ousted Guyanese Squash Star Nicolette Fernandes in the last 16 round of the Women’s Squash Association’s 29th Women’s World Championship in Penang, Malaysia.
Despite dishing out some of the prime moves, Fernandes could not stop the Frenchwoman who prevailed 14-12, 11-5, 11-3 in an encounter which lasted 38 minutes.
The world number 6 mixed her drop and cross court shots into a concoction that managed to tie Fernandes down for the win.
Even though she would have been eliminated in the last 16 of the tournament, Fernandes may be able to find some consolation in her second win against former World Champion Grinham in less than 18 months.
Grinham is the only woman besides world number one Nicol David to have won the WSA World title since 2005 and David is on the quest for her eight title.
Fernandes was also awarded the 2013 WSA Sportsmanship Award earlier this week.
