Hundreds of residents in the mining town of Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni) are presently battling with massive flooding in the area thus forcing them to evacuate their homes and move to higher grounds.
Inews understands that several sections in the municipality are under water due to heavy down pours over the night.
Based on social media post, Head of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), Kester Craig stated that the situation is being monitored while noting that a team will be deployed later in the day with relief supplies.
He further added that the CDC is currently in talks with the officials in Mahdia to identify possible shelters for the affected residents.
