Almost two days after the accident on the Catherine public road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) which caused the death of pedestrian Winston Small, 51, of Lot 2 Catherine Village, ECD, another pedestrian has succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Dead is 43-year-old Lawrence Semple of Catherine Village, ECD.

This is according to Police Public Relations Officer and Press Officer, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan who said that the man died at around 02:45hrs on Tuesday.

Police in a release had said that at around 17:30hrs on Sunday last, motorcar PWW 1614, driven by Police Constable Jarren Huntley with three other occupants, was proceeding east along the northern carriageway allegedly at a fast rate, when he swerved south to avoid an uneven patch on the road. As such, the constable lost control of the vehicle which collided into a 13-year-old pedal cyclist- identified as Jaden Alleyne, of Calcutta, Mahaicony, ECD.

The vehicle then swerved back north and collided with two pedestrians, the already deceased Small and now deceased Lawrence Semple, 43, of Catherine Village, ECD; thereafter it ended up in a yard on the said northern side of the road.

As a result of the collisions everyone received injuries. They were taken to the Mahaicony Hospital, where Winston Small was pronounced dead on arrival and two of the occupants of the car namely; Delroy Hutson, 35, and Odari Reynolds, 23, both of Eldorado Village, WCB, were treated and sent away, while the other Fitzroy Goodridge, 23, of the said Village, was admitted for observation.

Meanwhile the driver, cyclist and the other pedestrian, Semple were initially transferred to the GPHC in stable conditions.  The 13-year-old cyclist was later sent away.

Investigations are ongoing.
