[www.inewsguyana.com] – The search continues for the body of 14 – year – old Omar Mitchell of Half Mile, Linden who reportedly drowned yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, September 23) in the Demerara River in the vicinity of the old saw mill.
There are currently four boats and several police officers at the scene of the incident searching for the young man’s body. The teen’s mother, Oneka Mitchell said her son cannot swim and would rarely go at the location of the incident.
The form two, Harmony Secondary School student reportedly left home at around 17:00 hours yesterday and 15 minutes later his mother was called to the police station where she was told about her son’s demise.
According to his mother, he was in the company of a few friends and one of them confessed to pushing him into the river. However, the friend reportedly said he meant no harm and was unaware that Mitchell could not swim.
