Scores of adolescents, accompanied by their parents/guardians, have turned out at the COVID-19 vaccination drive to receive their first shot of the Pfizer BioNTech jab.

The vaccine drive, which is targeting children between the ages of 12 to 17, is being hosted by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health at the MovieTowne parking lot at Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown. The exercise started at 09:00h this morning and will run until 16:00h.

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for administration to adolescents.

Children going to get vaccinated are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must walk with their birth certificate or another document indicating proof of age.

KFC Guyana and ANSA McAL Limited have pitched in to provide one Kids Meal and a Smalta drink for each adolescent who turns up to get their first jab.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive is not restricted to adolescents in school.

Since the launch of the vaccination campaign for children, some over 200 adolescents have been inoculated already.
