Scores of retrenched sugar workers have mounted a picketing exercise at Enmore, East Coast Demerara ahead of the arrival of a Government team which is expected to hold a public meeting today.
The workers say Vice President and Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan, who is reportedly part of the team, is not welcomed in their community as they voiced concern over the nonpayment of their full severance to date and the hardships they are facing as result of their services being made redundant.
The workers say nothing Ramjattan says will comfort them at this time as the tightly secured meeting came too late.
