The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission [GGMC] will soon issue a cease work order on a private property in Sand Hills, Demerara River, which is currently involved in sand mining activities.
Several residents this morning staged a protest action in front of the GGMC, following which the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment issued a statement, explaining that they are investigating the sand mining activities on the property.
According to the statement, the very matter is also engaging the attention of the court and the Cease Work Order will be enforced by the Commission until such time.
“Meanwhile, the Ministry’s Guyana Geology and Mines Commission is once again urging members of the public to report illegal sand mining activities to the Commission or the nearest mining station,” the statement concluded.
