[www.inewsguyana.com] – Among much speculation that the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) is not in total agreement with the appointment of Dr. Rajendra Singh as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), a source from within has confirmed that the contract of Singh, particularly his salary is now being kept a guarded secret.
The source told iNews that little and in some cases no information is fed to the Union in relation to Singh’s contract which has raised the curiosity of several members. iNews was informed that the Union is anticipating the commencement of Singh’s tenure as CEO so that his performance can be assessed further.
When contacted by iNews for a comment on the matter, President of the Union, Komal Chand did not want to speak on the issue. He told iNews that GAWU will issue a statement.
Dr. Singh is currently the Chairman of GUYSUCO and will be taking over from the current CEO, Paul Bhim.
The government has for some time now been adumbrating the point that changes would be made to the board and as such Dr. Singh’s appointment is seen as a wider effort to review the composition of the board and everyday management.
