Lilchand pleaded not guilty to the offence which detailed that on February 28 at Four Miles, Port Kaituma, North West District he had 1,350 grammes of cannabis-sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that around 18:00hrs ranks from the Port Kaituma Police Station stopped four persons on a motorcycle, one of which was the defendant. A search was conducted which revealed that the defendant had the illegal substance in a haversack he was carrying at the time.

The Prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant did not provide the Court with any special reasons why he should be admitted to bail.

The objection was upheld and the matter was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrates’ Court for May 6.
