[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Rugby Football Union has a busy schedule ahead in hope of qualifying for the 2016 Olympics.

In light of their high calibre season ahead, the Association named a Technical Director in Angus Thompson on Wednesday, January 21 to work along with Head Coach, Theodore Henry for the team’s upcoming seven’s tournaments and Olympic qualifiers.

Thompson is expected in Guyana four weeks before the seven’s team leave for Hong Kong in March. Guyana will defend their NACRA 15’s title as well during the first quarter of the year.

President of the Union, Peter Green is confident that his men’s team will qualify for the Olympics.

“I am confident the men team will qualify for the Olympics in June because of our depth,” Green noted.

The women’s side which is also set to participate in qualifiers was challenged by Green.

“The women have to prove to me, the executive and the public that they are a quality side and if they cannot, I don’t intend as President to throw away funding, I prefer to use it for development towards the 2020 Olympics,” Green stated.

Meanwhile, the national teams will head into training camp to start their preparation for the upcoming season.
