[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana put on a dominant show of rugby on Saturday to start the North American Caribbean Rugby Association title defence successfully with a 48-22 win over Barbados at the National Park rugby field.
The national rugby champs outplayed their Bajan counterparts in every aspect of the game leaving no stones unturned on their way to comfortable 17-5 half time lead.
“Green Machine” as the Guyanese ruggers dubbed themselves flipped into overdrive, scoring tries at will that sent the large turnout at the National Park into complete euphoria.
Two tries each by Blaise Bailey and Jamal Angus, four conversions by Captain Ryan Gonsalves and a try apiece by Avery Corbin, Claudius Butts, Theo Henry and Richard Staglon saw the Guyanese side put on a massive show.
Raj Edwards (two tries), Stephen Millar (one try), Jerren Clarice (one try) and Mykyle Walcott (one conversion) were the scorers for the visitors Barbados.
Guyana’s next game will be against Trinidad and Tobago on April 11 in an away encounter.However, once victorious against Trinidad, Guyana will play the winner of the North Zonce championships for the 15’s title.
