[www.inewsguyana.com] –The People’s Progressive Party/Civic would like to see the names of those persons in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the Guyana Police Force (GPF) , Guyana Prison Service (GPS), Guyana Fire Service (GFS) to be off of the Official List of Electors (OLE) come May 11.
This is according to the General Secretary of the Party, Clement Rohee who raised the concern about the names of those persons working within such Bodies appearing on the list of electors at a news conference on Tuesday, March 31.
Rohee told reporters that “the Party has raised concerns in 2011 with regards to the names of the disciplined services being on the official list of electors used on E day. This obviously caused confusion.”
He is adamant that the names of those persons should be on a separate list for when the disciplined services have to vote, which is usually a week before elections.
When contacted, Chief Elections Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Keith Lowenfield told iNews that such a task could not be legally undertaken by the elections Body.
He explained that the “name of every electorate” must be on the OLE which is usually prepared and published weeks in advance of General Elections.
He is adamant that the names of those persons should be on a separate list for when the disciplined services have to vote, which is usually a week before elections…those in the far flung parts of guyana must vote the same time too so that after polls closed results are immediate..
