Guyana’s Permanent Representative to United Nations, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, on Monday formally presented her Letters of Credence to the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres.
Rodrigues-Birkett is the first female and first Indigenous person to be appointed as Permanent Representative of Guyana to the UN with the rank and quality of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
During the accreditation ceremony, Rodrigues-Birkett extended greetings from Guyana’s President, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Hugh Todd. Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett also pledged Guyana’s support to the work of the United Nations and the Secretary General’s reform initiatives.
Monday’s ceremony, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said, finalises the accreditation process following a virtual accreditation held on October 2, 2020.
