In an effort to upgrade the country’s healthcare system to match international standards, President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced the implementation of robotics in medical care delivery.
The Head of State made this announcement during the White Coat ceremony of the newly-graduated doctors of the University of Guyana on Wednesday.
During his speech, President Ali gave a brief rundown of the administration’s plans to develop the country’s health infrastructure by upgrading hospitals and other health centres, while also providing training for more Guyanese who wish to pursue a career in the healthcare sector.
He believes that with these efforts, a world-class healthcare system can be developed; one that serves local needs and attracts foreign patients.
“…We are moving full speed ahead in bringing up to speed our medical system to allow robotics to be part of the medical care delivery,” President Ali announced.
Only a few days ago, the President has announced a total of $125 billion will be invested within the next three years to upgrade hinterland healthcare facilities.
These upgrades will be done to healthcare facilities in areas including Lethem, Kato, Mahdia, Kamarang, Mabaruma, Moruca, Bartica, and Port Kaituma.
The Head of State previously mentioned that the government is currently working with its international partners to provide better training for persons within the healthcare sector so as to improve the quality of services for the Guyanese people.
