Government, minutes ago, named its members for the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) which has been established to investigate the circumstances and causes of the multiple fires and deadly riot which took place at the Camp Street Prison over the past two days.
The Chairman of this CoI has been identified as Former Justice James Patterson and his co-members are Human Rights activist Merle Mendonca and former Director of Prisons, Dale Erskine.
President David Granger yesterday afternoon, shortly after a massive fire burnt down a section of the jail and killing 17 inmates, called an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC).
The Head of State then instructed Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan to set up the three-member Commission which is tasked with not only investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths but to also make recommendations to prevent the re-occurrence of similar incidents.
I believe,it`s a timely decision President Granger made to have this Prison tragedy properly investigated. You will surely get the facts and not merely HEARSAY from these investigations. The Commission of Inquiry seems to be an experienced and credible one that will not hesitate to be very imformative.
Retired Judge, Ex-Prison Chief, Human Rights Activist to probe deadly prison riot.
Is this a COI? Like really? Or is it a probe? First thing they will say– overcrowding- and case closed. Are they going to recommend lobster fest and five star hotel treatment? Hell no .. But these three will demand their pound of taxpayers flesh since they all know who are the deadly criminals that resides there–when caught..
One that got roast was the one that robbed and killed a farmer on the east coast. Police captured him at Princess Hotel. Remember him? Rob and kill to sport and gamble at high end hotel.
