There are reports of an exchange of gunshots earlier today (Wednesday), between suspected bandits and law enforcement officials in Buxton Village, East Coast Demerara as law enforcement officials continue their desperate search to recapture the prison escapees.
A police source has confirmed that ranks ventured into the area after receiving intelligence that the prison escapees may be hiding out in the Buxton Backlands.
INews understands that ranks requested backup which is currently being deployed on the ground.
It is highly believed that the gunmen are those who were involved in Sunday’s Camp Street jailbreak.
Eight prisoners are still missing following the revolt which left one prison warden dead, several others suffering injuries and the destruction of the penitentiary.
