[www.inewsguyana.com] – Royston James was today charged with larceny from a person and remanded to prison by Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on September 22, 2011 at Croal Street, Georgetown, he stole from Akeem Calendar one Gold Band valued $147,000.
According to the Prosecution, on the day in question the virtual complainant (VC) was walking in the vicinity of Croal Street at around 18:30 hrs, when the defendant rode pass on a bicycle and snatched the hand band.
He made good his escape and the matter was reported to the Police. James was only apprehended on July 24 after he was identified during an identification parade.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant successfully opposed bail on the grounds of the nature and prevalence. Grant told the Court that the man was previously convicted, served his sentence and was released from prison in April.
The matter was transferred before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and James will return for his trial on August 8.
