A repeat “Driving under the influence of alcohol” (DUI) offender, was on Wednesday suspended from driving for the next twelve months and also fined $7,500.00 by Magistrate Christel Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Taxi driver, Solomon Stoby, 58, of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica was first charged on February 18, 2017. He pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.00 and his licence was endorsed.
On Friday September 01, 2017, Stoby who owns and operates motor car HC 2999 was stopped at Fifth Avenue, Bartica during a routine stop and search operation.
According to the Police, the slurred speech and the strong smell of alcohol in the driver’s breath, caused an officer to administer a breathalyzer test which confirmed their suspicion; his blood alcohol limit registered at .122 micrograms. The legal limit is .035 micrograms.
