Minister of Agriculture Dr. Leslie Ramsammy is of the view that the removal of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Surgar Corporation (Guysuco), Rajaindra Singh was premature.
According to Dr. Ramsammy, while changes in Guysuco’s management were certain, it was meant to be done in a packaged form.
The reason for this, he explained is because the Ministry did not want people to feel that the difficulties of the company existed because of them.
The contract for Singh was not renewed by the Board of Directors of Guysuco.
iNews was reliably informed that Singh was officially informed of the decision sometime last week, and it is not yet clear who will take his position.
Singh was the former Chairman of the Guyana Forestry Commission and has worked with Guysuco for more than four years.
iNews understands that the decision not to renew Singh’s contract has caused internal turmoil within Guysuco.
In early July, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon told reporters that Guysuco’s Chairman Dr. Rajendra Singh is expected to be the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Guysuco, taking over from the current CEO, Paul Bhim.
Dr. Luncheon had said, ““So I wouldn’t be surprised if what I said is a bit stronger than a rumour…that we may in the short term…soon…to be advised…be informed about the appointment of a CEO of GuySuCo…and I am saying, do not be surprised if it were to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GuySuCo.”
Additionally, only last week President Donald Ramotar revealed that the Board of Directors of Guysuco will soon be reviewed as well as there will be a new role for Dr. Singh.
Meanwhile speaking on the appointment of a new Board, the Agriculture Minister said this will be in place within a month’s time.
Discussions he said are underway and recommendations for new appointment are being received. [Akash Ramlackhan]
