[www.inewsguyana.com] – The USAID project which Guyana rejected two months ago was one which offered the government support across a wide range of national activities.
This is according to Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, who told reporters that Cabinet rejected the project in October this year because of a flaw in its design.
Dr. Luncheon could not give the name of the project or reveal exactly the main aim of the project however; he was dumbfounded as to the approach taken by the USAID in designing such a project, without involving the Guyana government.
The Cabinet Secretary said that government and the USAID are known to have a good working relationship in the past; however, this was not the case with the design of the particular project.
“This time around for some strange reason, up to now it is beyond us because this has been the healthiest of relationships, it has been an extremely beneficial relationship. Why the abandonment, nobody can explain but so grievous has been the consequence of this abandonment, cabinet had no option but to pull the plug.”
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has over the years supported Guyana in various areas, including Parliament, Local Government and elections.
