[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 32 – year – old labourer of Charity, Francis Gonsalves tried to commit suicide on Thursday, February 21 in the Suddie Magistrates’ Court room after he was remanded to prison by Magistrate Sunil Scarce for the offence of rape.
According to reports, Prosecutor Krishna Datt Ramana grabbed the prisoner after he attempted to jump from the Court window to concrete floor some twelve feet below.
It is alleged that on February 17, Gonsalves raped a female at Charity, Essequibo Coast. He was not required to plea to the indictable offence.
The Court heard that the rape victim was rescued by Gonsalves’ mother and that violence was used during the commission of the offence. The Magistrate has since ordered a psychiatric evaluation of Gonsalves.
