[www.inewsguyana.com] – Agriculture Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy is back at work, according to Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon. The question was asked of Dr. Luncheon at a media conference on Wednesday following his pronouncement on March 04, that Dr. Ramsammy was on extended medical leave and that his health could dictate whether he will return to office.
That pronouncement drew an immediate response from Dr. Ramsammy, who apparently took umbrage to being written off due to ill health.
Dr. Ramsammy said he remained committed to his job and will be returning to campaign for the PPP in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, in his explanation today, the Cabinet Secretary said his earlier pronouncements were based on reports provided at cabinet meetings for which Minister Ramsammy was absent.
He said Cabinet has since noted that Dr Ramsammy’s health, “presumably is no longer an issue”.
In fact, the Minister, Dr. Luncheon said was part of a delegation in Venezuela, discussing rice export. The Cabinet Secretary accepted that his initial statement “innocently contributed to the harboring of concerns” for Dr. Ramsammy’s health. [Radha Motielall]
