[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Office of the President (OP) has denied that President Donald Ramotar nominated Crime Chief, Seelall Persaud to be the new Commissioner of Police.
In a statement issued to the media, the Office of the President pointed out that after meeting with Leader of the Opposition, David Granger, President Ramotar signaled his intention to confirm the current police commissioner [ag], Leroy Brumell in his position.
“Office of the President has since observed that many distortions of this engagement being published in the press suggesting that the President’s “nominee” was Mr. Seelall Persaud, Deputy Commissioner Law Enforcement and that “an agreement” was reached in respect of Mr. Brummell. Office of the President hopes that the inaccuracies being peddled in the press would forthwith cease and be replaced with the facts,” the statement explained.
The President and the Granger met on October 3 and agreed on confirming Brumell in the position. He has been acting Commissioner for approximately two years.
