…resulting in bandit’s death
Acting Top Cops, David Ramnarine, says that the action taken by a businessman yesterday in Belvior Court, Georgetown, resulting in the death of a bandit and foiling a possible robbery attempt, is commendable and he encourages other citizens to act in a similar manner.
Ramnarine was at the time responding to media operatives who asked for a comment on the matter, earlier today.
“I believe that based on the initial reports I received, [it was] a commendable, brave, courageous… piece of action by the occupants of that car to deter the efforts of someone…to commit some crime and more citizens need to do just that,” he said.
Inews had previously reported that one bandit was shot dead following a shootout at the above mentioned location, during the wee hours of Sunday morning, while another man was hospitalized for a wound to his elbow.
Based on reports received, the incident occurred sometime after mid-night while a businessman and his two friends were returning home from a movie night out.
This online publication understands that the three men stopped their car in Belvior to purchase something to eat. However, as they proceeded along their way, they found that the street had been blocked off by a car. After honking at the motor vehicle, several men reportedly exited the same vehicle, all armed.
The alleged perpetrators then began to fire at the motor vehicle in which the businessman and his friends were in, however they were unaware that one of the men (the businessman) was armed as well.
As the exchange of fire between the two sides continued for several minutes, the business man’s friend who was in the driver’s seat sustained a gunshot wound to his elbow.
Subsequently, as the businessman continued to return fire (he was in the back seat of the motorcar), he managed to shoot and kill one of the bandits, identified as Ray Goulding, 32 of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.
After his accomplices noticed that Goulding was dead, they quickly scurried away leaving his body at the location.
The police were informed and upon arriving at the scene, a .32pistol used by the dead man was found near him.
The post mortem on the body is expected to be conducted sometime during this week. (Ramona Luthi)
