[www.inewsguyana.com]- The Queen’s Baton today (March 3) made its way around Georgetown earlier being relayed from hand to hand; the first relay being from the Guyana Olympic Association boss K.A. Juman Yassin to the President of Guyana, Donald Ramotar.
The President, who took the Baton from State House to the Ministry of Culture in an invited comment, spoke of the unity that the sport brings to countries across the world.
The President relayed the Baton to Sport Minister Dr Frank Anthony who in his remark dubbed it a great day for the country.
Another bearer of the Baton was the House Speaker Raphael Trotman who said that to carry the Baton from Public Buildings to Regent Street was a privilege as it signifies the journey and collaboration of the Commonwealth.
The Queens Baton will continue its journey through Georgetown today before it heads to Ishalton tomorrow and then depart for Trinidad.
The Baton which contains a message from the Queen will travel across the globe before it heads to Glasgow where Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth The Second will open it to read the message she would have installed at the start of the relay.
