‘Push Cart’ vendor accused of breaking into Catholic Church remanded to prison

[www.inewsguyana.com]A push cart vendor of Lot 205 ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for breaking and entering a church.

Richard Ramcharran pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that between August 19 and October 23 in the Georgetown Magisterial district, he broke and entered the Roman Catholic Church and stole therein a quantity of items which include one bell, three metal and wooden desks, one grill gate and one antique chest of drawers together valued $895,000.

Police prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that the church was secured by a member and upon his return he found that the bond was broken into and the articles were missing.

A report was made to the police and investigations revealed that the defendant was seen existing the bond from the western side of the building.

Mangru successfully objected to bail citing the prevalence and seriousness of the offence.  The accused will return to Court on December 16.
