All public schools in Guyana will be closed on Monday, November 12, to facilitate the holding of the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGE).
This was announced by Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, Brushell Blackman who revealed that several schools are to used as polling stations.
However, the closure will only last for the day and all schools will resume the following day.
It was also revealed that teachers will be tasked with performing the functions of the various officials for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) at these stations.
Local Government Elections will be held across the country on Monday where citizens will be given the chance to select individuals in the community to represent them. Once elected, these persons will be responsible for ensuring that the needs of the constituencies are fulfilled.
The elections would have commenced with Nomination Day on September 21, where the candidates would have entered the elections arena under their respective political party or as independent candidates.
