Fifty-one persons from Regions 3, 4 and 5 are currently being trained as Patient Care Assistants and upon completion of the programme will be seconded to the Hugo Chavez Centre for Rehabilitation and Reintegration and the Palms Geriatric Home where they will be providing basic nursing care for residents there.
The official launch of the programme, which commenced on April 10th, took place this morning (Monday) at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Resource Centre. The training is being carried out by the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the Georgetown Public Health Corporation (GPHC) and is scheduled to run for six months.
Coordinator of the program Ms Doneth Mingo, in her overview noted that the programme is designed to prepare patient care assistants to perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of qualified personnel in order to meet the needs of residents in the health care setting.
