The body of a 35-year-old man of Prospect, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Tuesday morning discovered in a canal within the community.
He has been identified as Raymond Johnson, a labourer.
According to reports, residents noticed the body floating in the canal and alerted the police as well as the man’s relatives.
A family member reportedly told the cops that he last saw the man sitting under a coconut tree next to the canal, and a few minutes later, he observed the man swimming in the canal.
Johnson’s relative said that he did not pay the man “any mind” and went about his business.
Sometime after he was alerted by residents that Johnson’s lifeless body was seen in the canal.
When police arrived on the scene, the dead man’s body was found face down without any clothes.
According to the man’s relative, Johnson suffered from epilepsy.
An investigation has been launched.
