Recaptured: Mark Royden Williams called "Smallie"

Acting Top Cop, David Ramnarine earlier today (Wednesday) berated law enforcement officials over the leaking of a nude photograph of recaptured Bartica Massacre convict, Mark Royden Williams called “Smallie”, noting that an investigation has been launched into the matter.

Recaptured: Mark Royden Williams called “Smallie”

“This nude photograph is the most unfortunate and unethical, insensitive, whatever you can find to describe that piece of action but unfortunately it originated during a process when he [Williams] was being, what you would call, interviewed having returned to the prison and a directive was given, because he had a number of tattoos about the body and you had to remove the clothing to, get, take pictures and whatever and some insensitive, irresponsible person decided to do just more than that,” Ramnarine told media operatives during a press conference at the Public Security Ministry today.

The Top Cop noted that after speaking with the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels, an investigation was launched this morning.

Moreover, Ramnarine noted that while he does not have the benefit of an initial report from the investigators so as to pin-point possible suspects, he is positive that the leaking of the photo originated from within the Camp Street Penitentiary.

In February, Williams was sentenced to death by hanging along with Dennis “Anaconda” Williams for the 2008 Bartica massacre.

However, on July 9, while being imprisoned at the Camp Street Penitentiary, he, along with several other hardcore murderers, masterminded an escape plot which resulted in one prisoner being dead and several others being injured as well as the destruction of the prison.

After being on the run for 3 months, the notorious fugitive was arrested on Monday evening by police on the Weldaad, West Coast Berbice Public Road in a mini-bus.

The nude photo of Williams was leaked on social media less than 24 hours after he was re-apprehended.

Meanwhile, still on the run are murder accused; Paul Goriah and Cobena Stephens- both of whom Ramnarine has vowed will be back in lawful custody soon, as the police intend to intensify their efforts to recapture them. (Ramona Luthi)
