[www.inewsgauyan.com] – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Michael Khan said the probe into the most recent fraud at the institution is still ongoing.
Initially the police and the Auditor General’s Office had launched an investigation into the theft of approximately $3M from the GPHC, however on Friday, January 17 Khan said investigations have revealed that it was $5.1M.
The discovery of the fraud was made sometime in October, 2013 during an audit exercise and a female accounts clerk was taken into police custody but was released the following day.
Khan also confirmed on Friday that she along with another staff is currently off the job to facilitate investigations.
The Hospital CEO told reporters that all internal investigations have been completed and a report was sent to the Board of Directors. He said the police are now left to do their part of the investigation.
It is still not clear how the money disappeared.
