[www.inewsguyana.com] – Prison escapees Randolph Marks and Steven Bacchus were today sentenced to two years in jail each when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Both men pleaded guilty with an explanation to the charge which alleged that on May 19 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, they escaped from lawful custody.
In his explanation Bacchus told the court that he was wrongfully charged with a murder that he has no knowledge about.
He claimed he had to find $800,000 to pay a lawyer to fight his case and on the day of the incident the lawyer did not show up to Court to represent him.
Bacchus said he was frustrated and when placed in the holding cell at the Magistrates Court, he saw two shirts on the window. He further disclosed that his frustration caused him to remove the shirts and escape through the window.
He said that he did not plan to escape and begged the Chief Magistrate for a short sentence.
Meanwhile Randolph Marks explained that he saw several other men escaping through the window and knowing his situation with his family, he also joined the men.
Marks said he is sorry and begged the Magistrate to be lenient with him.
