[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty-two-year-old, Marsha Maria de Caires, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after she was allegedly busted with cocaine at the Ogle Airport.
De Caires of Lot 56 Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge on Thursday, March 26; the Court heard that on March 24 at Ogle International Airport she had in her possession 3.770 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Oswald Messiah disclosed that during the course of de Caires’ work, she met someone whom she claimed linked her with a male associate. They arranged to meet at the back of the Botanical Gardens, where the associate gave her in excess of US$2,000.
The Court heard she supplied him with her passport and he purchased her ticket to Barbados. On the day in question, she was in the process of boarding a LIAT plane to Barbados, when the associate gave her a lady’s hand bag.
She was subsequently stopped and searched and a CANU officer found four packets containing the illegal substance. The Court heard that she is a mother of one who resides with her father.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for April 01.
