[www.inewsguyana.com] – Attorney – at – Law, Sase Gunraj was sworn in as the new Commissioner of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), representing the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
Gunraj was sworn in on Tuesday, February 03 at the Office of the President by President Donald Ramotar. He replaces Dr. Keshav ‘Bud’ Mangal, who recently resigned, citing “personal reasons.
The President in brief remarks noted that it is an important vacancy being filled at the shortest possible time, as he noted that Gunraj will make a “major contribution” at this time.
Meanwhile, Gunraj admitted that he is joining GECOM at a crucial time, given the fact that general election is slated for May 11. He told the media that he is prepared to make his contribution to the holding of successful elections.
Only on Monday (February 02), General Secretary of the PPP, Clement Rohee revealed that the Party was still discussing “names” for the new Commissioner. He said that no decision was made.
