President David Granger has extended sincere condolences to Leader of the Opposition, former President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, whose sister, Ms. Oma “Shanta” Jagdeo, died yesterday.
The President, in a letter addressed to Dr. Jagdeo, said, “The loss of a loved one, especially someone who has been devoted to your care and well-being for almost your entire life, is always a painful experience. I pray that God’s comforting Grace will be with you in this your moment of grief.”
President Granger also extended condolences on behalf of the Government of Guyana to all family members during this time of bereavement.
Ms. Jagdeo, who died unexpectedly yesterday, was the older sister of former President Jagdeo, with whom he shared a close relationship. She was 57 years old.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem performed on the body of Ms. Jagdeo, has confirmed that she died from natural causes.
While details of the funeral arrangements have not been confirmed, INews understands that wake will be held at Dr. Jagdeo’s residence at Sparendaam.
Not a pleasant or dignified message, Emile from Demerara Waves. You are normally a reasonable man…We should praise President Granger for being a man of honor and dignity; whatever political differences and hostilities he has for former President Jagdeo, were swept away in the face of the latter’s tragic loss. That is how the best of humans behave, and President Granger is showing himself to be the best of Guyanese in his Christian expression of sympathy for his political colleague. Let us follow his example: it might lead us out of the political and ethnic mess we are in. So, three cheers for you Mr President and our heartfelt sadness for Mr Jagdeo’s loss.
