[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyanese can look forward to the current administration doing its part to ensure inclusive governance, according to President David Granger following a meeting with Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo, at the Ministry of the Presidency on Monday, August 31.
According to a press release from the Ministry of the Presidency, President Granger said that his administration is prepared to work with the Opposition for the benefit of the people of Guyana.
“He added that there is the urgent problem of threats to Guyana’s territorial integrity that must be addressed. President Granger said that the Opposition Leader has agreed to work with the administration to deal with the Venezuela territorial issue,” the press release noted.
According to the release, also discussed at the meeting as a matter of national interest, was the establishment of the five bi-partisan committees, which includes the Agriculture Committee, Budget Committee, Border Committee, National Unity Committee and a Security Committee.
“Once Mr. Jagdeo was elected Leader of the Opposition, I wrote him inviting him to talks, because as Leader of Opposition he has certain Constitutional obligations,” President Granger said.
The Head of State added that there is important work that has to be completed on the packed roster of the Eleventh Parliament, which includes the 2016 Budget and support for the agriculture sector, particularly the rice and sugar industry.
Given the magnitude of these and other matters, the President said he is pleased that the meeting happened, as it is important to start the process of addressing matters of national interest.
Nice piece Gloria is a dunce
Dr Jagdeo is the most qualified and convincing diplomat to represent Guyana on this issue .Granger seeks his help because he have no other to represent the country with dignity .
GloriaY since you appears to understand the role of the Opposition leader then please enlighten us. Why was Granger uncooperative while in opposition???Now that Granger is in Government he is looking for support from this strong opposition.
Jagdeo is known internationally hence represented our country competently. As.such he is the most suitable person to represent Guyana (re border issue).
President Granger is a statesman; he will abide by the Constitution, and not knowingly flout it. He has the interest of all Guyanese and he should be applauded for his cool and collective leadership role. In this highly competitive world economic priorities have to be correctly identified and developed. There is no need at this time to pass more laws to curb crimes but to implement the laws – have adequate and qualified manpower; breed confidence and have committees comprise of ethnic mix; those who are or were involved in corrupt practices must account for such practices. There has to be close scrutiny/monitoring of the nation’s finances; not to over anticipate income (revenue) and spend willy nilly. The road ahead is bumpy but can be safely ridden with a cool leader. All the best to all Guyanese.
Your post begs for an understanding of the Constitution. No one is “begging” Jagdeo for help. He is BOUND ” by his position to take part in the decision making process. Have you forgotten that he is being paid by the Guyanese people, and as such must earn his pay. And yes Jagdeo is a crook and criminal and ought to be jailed for wrongdoing including accessory to murderd, theft, and a host of evil, dishonest acts.
I have to commend both leader for taking a positive step. Let’s hope this is a genuine effort and not for convenience.
You could have saved yourself the embarrassment of exposing how dumb you are by withholding this silly oost. Take some time out a learn the constitutional obligation of the opposition leader. Once you do, you will not make such dumb and uninformed statements.
Come on Mr. Jagdeo tell the old man what to do, he needs your advise very badly, show him your ability, show them that you have Guyana at heart
Are you a cynic?
It’s fool like you that have Guyana in the STOP,PARK ,going know place. We should all be working to build a United Guyana,if he did wrong and is found guilty, well you tell us what should happen. You should beg for a .????,,thank you
Here comes the time to distinguish between political rhetoric and reality…. I hope President Granger is guided accordingly and he is able to separate himself from the extremist within the PNC and AFC…
