Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces President Dr Irfaan Ali moments ago announced that members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will benefit from a one-month bonus.
He made the announcement at the GDF’s Annual Christmas Luncheon.
“In keeping with our commitment to our men and women in uniform, again. I wish to announce your one-month bonus for this year,” the Head of State said.
“Spend it wisely,” he added.
Prior to announcing the bonus, President Ali had informed that the government will ensure members of the Joint Services get all the assistance they need in building their homes.
He explained that soldiers who received land allocations will get free steel and cement under the initiative being spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing and Water.
President Ali noted too that on December 28, the government will facilitate an engagement between GDF ranks and the local banks on the issue of loans to build their homes.
These initiatives are in addition to the 8% salary increase as well as the salary adjustments the Head of State had previously announced for the army.
