General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Clement Rohee says Leader of the APNU, David Granger’s grasp of the youth unemployment rate should be used by the party to move into first gear and actually play a role in addressing this problem.
At a press conference this morning, Monday September 2, Rohee says the first thing the APNU needs to do is start playing a supporting role in national development and job creation as opposed to fighting the steps being taken by the government in this regard.
The PPP was responding to Granger’s statement as it relates to the issue of unemployment in the county, which he described as a “ticking time bomb.”
“We find the concern and statement by Mr. Granger perplexing as this is the very individual and his party by extension who only a few short weeks ago voted against crucial pieces of legislation in the National Assembly for the realization of the Amaila Falls hydro project.
Mr. Granger and his party cannot on one hand sabotage efforts which will lead to the creation of jobs for Guyanese, particularly youths and then at the same time gripe about youth unemployment being a ticking time bomb.”
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh says Granger and his party need to stop paying the youths and the country in general lip service.
