[www.inewsguyana.com] – General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Clement Rohee is denying reports that Former Attorney General Anil Nandlall was selected by the Party to be the Deputy Speaker.
Nandlall has long since been touted as a possible candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker and this was compounded by a recent report in a local daily newspaper that the Former AG was given the post.
According to the article “the decision was made at the level of the Party’s Central Committee and ratified by its Executive Committee.”
However, Rohee at a PPP press conference at Freedom House on Monday, July 13 stated that this was not the case, indicating that the Party is yet to settle on a candidate for the post.
As it relates to the post of Chief Whip, Rohee related that the Party has already made a decision on who that person will be and it will only be revealed when the PPP decides to take its seat in Parliament.
Former Presidential Advisor on Governance Gail Teixeira held the post in the ninth and tenth parliaments and it is expected that she would return as the party’s Chief Whip.
