[www.inewsguyana.com] – An employee attached to the Training School of the Guyana Post Office (GPO) is currently hospitalized at a City Hospital after being pistol whipped during a robbery this morning at the Lamaha and Carmichael streets, Georgetown location. Other staff members are said to be traumatized.
Armed bandits invaded the premises around 09:30 hours and carted off with a so far undisclosed sum of cash, which according to reports are well within the millions.
Police were seen within minutes of the crime being committed at the location, carrying out investigations. Reports are that they [the police] received information from an eyewitness about the number plate of the getaway car. iNews was informed that it was a white 192.
When this news entity paid a visit to the Post Master General, Henry Dundas at his Robb Street Office, he confirmed that the robbery had occurred and that one of his staff was injured and seeking medical attention.
Dundas said it was too early to release any other detail, since investigations were still being conducted and he was still being briefed. He committed to releasing the full details before the end of the day in relation to the unfortunate incident.
He explained that it was a busy time for GPO staff across the country since pension payouts are still being conducted.
