Jumo Benjamin, a porter, met his demise on yesterday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision at Yarrowkabra, Linden- Soesdyke Highway, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The accident occurred around 15:10h and involved motor lorry GXX 2366 and motor lorry GYY 6745. At the time of the accident, Yannick Pratt, owner of the latter vehicle, was in the cab of the truck while Benjamin was in its tray.
Police stated that motor lorry GXX 2366 was travelling at a fast rate of speed and was in the process of overtaking a line of traffic when its left front collided with the right side of the other truck, which turned into Yarrowkabra Pump Road.
As a result of the collision, Benjamin fell out of the vehicle and was run over by motor lorry GXX 2366.
The injured porter was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the truck that caused the accident was arrested. He is currently assisting with investigations.
