[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Port Mourant, Berbice business and customers were robbed of millions on Friday afternoon, October 30 by bandits who pretended to be customers.
iNews understands that during the course of Friday afternoon, two men armed with handguns, robbed Gobins Grocery Store of approximately $6M in cash.
They also robbed the co-owner of the store, Radha Gobin of $500,000 worth of jewellery and an overseas based Guyanese of an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.
iNews understands that a man is in police custody assisting-with investigations.
According to reports, the men entered the shop and ordered two Guinness and as Gobin was about to serve them, one of the men pulled out a gun and placed it to her head.
Gobin told iNews that the bandits then demanded cash and she told them where it was located. Even though she cooperated with the men, she still suffered a blow to her head from her attacker.
According to Gobin, she had several bags of money located next to the cashier counter as she was scheduled to clear of her debts. Meanwhile, a customer who went to the shop to exchange currency was also robbed. Other customers who had valuables were also robbed inside the store.
The men also fired a shot in the air, in an effort to scare the customers and as they exited the shop, they held the overseas customer as a hostage, walked out of the shop, jumped on their motorcycle and escaped after releasing the customer.
