[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 45 – year – old Hire-car driver of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast was sentenced to six months in prison after he was found guilty of dangerous driving by Magistrate Sunil Scare on Thursday (December 5) in the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.
According to reports, Richie Bishop was initially charged with causing death by dangerous driving on November 8. The charge alleged that Bishop drove motor car HC 1122 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Muszid Sabar.
Bishop who made his first appearance before Magistrate Scarce on November 14 in the Anna Regina Magistrates’’ Court was granted bail.
A trial was subsequently conducted before Magistrate Scarce and six witnesses were called by the Prosecution; at the close of the case the Magistrate called on the Bishop to lead his defense where he made an unsworn statement and called one witness.
On December 5 Magistrate Scarce dismissed the charge of causing death by dangerous driving stating that the “causative nextos” was not proven.
However the Magistrate found the defendant guilty beyond reasonable doubts of dangerous driving and sentenced him to six months in prison.
The Magistrate while delivering his final ruling noted however that the Police photography and general investigation into the matter was poor and Traffic Officer’s statements left much to be desired.
