A 51 – year – old laborer of the Lower Pomeroon River was remanded to prison on Monday when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce in the Charity court to answer a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with his daughter.
The man was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which was read to him ‘in camera’.
The Police said that between April and May this year, the man allegedly committed the act.
Prosecutor Krishnadatt Ramana objected to bail on the grounds that the virtual complainant lives with the accused in the same house and he can commit the offense again.
He was unrepresented and will return to court on July 29.
Meanwhile, sources close to the family said the story is much deeper as the girl was at one point pregnant for her father. The source said the 51 year old man had beaten the girl, leading to a miscarriage. He had also chopped her on the hand at one time, according to the source.
