Richard Mohamed, a 30-year-old labourer of Grant Friendship, Lower Pomeroon Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was granted $500,000 bail when he appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge of attempted murder.
Mohamed, also of Huntly, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara is accused of chopping his 23-year-old reputed wife following an argument on March 25.
The charge was laid under Section 103 C of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01. at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam.
He was not required to plea and will make his next court appearance on April 19 at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
Reports are that on the day in question, at about 09:00h, Mohamed and his reputed wife was engaged in a heated argument. The man then took a chopper and dealt several chops to her body and head with several fingers severed in the process.
She was six months pregnant. Her right hand was partially amputated during the attack.
Following the incident, the perpetrator set the house on fire. However, persons in the vicinity managed to render assistance and rushed her for medical attention and subsequently air dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was further treated.
